Presented by the Robt G Shaver SCV Camp to Vernon Dutton

Wait ’til Captain Keenan hears about this!  Y’all can call me Colonel now.

I was honored to speak to the Robert G. Shaver SCV Camp in Jonesboro this week.  There were 16 members present, and we had a lot of fun at the Fish Boat Restaurant.

We talked about the 3rd Arkansas Infantry and Hood’s Texas Brigade under Gen. Robert E. Lee during the Maryland Campaign.  jonesboro sun clipping aug 17 2013

I suppose the lecture went well enough…they made me an Honorary Colonel.  That’s quite a step up from my High Private status in the 3rd Arkansas reenactors unit.  As icing on the cake, they shared a clipping from the Jonesboro Sun that ran on Aug. 17th.

Many thanks to Ray Jones and to all who came out.

Take care.

About Civil War Reflections

Vernon has been a Civil War buff since childhood, but had been inactive in Civil War history for over two decades. However, in the early 1990s his interest was rekindled after watching Ken Burns’ “Civil War Documentary” on PBS. He particularly became interested in the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg) and decided to learn more about this epic struggle.
