The Other Side, part 4

Antietam Luminaries

Luminaries at Antietam

(ed. note: this is a continuation of the poem, “The Assurance” by Vernon Dutton)

We welcome you with open arms.
Come meet us; we will not harm.
You are our voice that speaks of woe
In times of long ago.

We have waited for so long
For you to hear our song.
Please do not be distressed.
We offer gentleness.

We are not of your plane.
But our spirits can’t refrain
From being drawn to you
Since your way opened to you.

So hear us when we speak.
We only want to seek
Our release from this suspension
And journey to the right dimension.

You have become our choice
To hear our united voice.
We are from both sides.
We have provided you our guides.

Do not be afraid.
You are on a great crusade.
The path for you was paved
Since in the womb you were made.

It is heaven’s truth.
Your angels watch over you
And have shown the proof
Of what you were meant to do.

About Civil War Reflections

Vernon has been a Civil War buff since childhood, but had been inactive in Civil War history for over two decades. However, in the early 1990s his interest was rekindled after watching Ken Burns’ “Civil War Documentary” on PBS. He particularly became interested in the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg) and decided to learn more about this epic struggle.
