(ed. note: this is a continuation of the poem, “The Assurance” by Vernon Dutton)
So go forth in peace and love.
Your fate has been ordained from above.
You no longer fight it now
Your journey has been endowed.
We await on your Sacred Ground
To which you’ve been bound
To tell our story to you
So you can transfer the news.
We are still out here
And think of our loved ones dear.
We could not say good-bye,
But from life we had to fly.
The hate and strife is now gone
That produced the war we had sown.
We paid the price of our folly
To that we all now agree.
So you see we have no cause.
We now know all our flaws.
You are our pipeline
In this space and time.
To stop this communique is hard.
We do not want to depart
From one that wants to hear
And used to be our peer.
We will talk more and more
And help you remember the score
Of our place and time
And help you put it to rhyme.
