Camden Expedition: April 7, 1864

PRAIRIE D’ANE, Ark.

Confederate Commanding Officer Sterling Price arrived at Prairie D’Ane on April 7th.  He brought with him the last two Brigades of Fagan’s Cavalry Division, which were commanded by Brigadier General Thomas Dockery and Colonel William Crawford.  Price had about 7000 Cavalry to confront the Union advance.  The Confederates had been fighting as infantry during most of the skirmishes and battles in which they had participated.  Prairie D’Ane would be no different.

About Civil War Reflections

Vernon has been a Civil War buff since childhood, but had been inactive in Civil War history for over two decades. However, in the early 1990s his interest was rekindled after watching Ken Burns’ “Civil War Documentary” on PBS. He particularly became interested in the Battle of Antietam (Sharpsburg) and decided to learn more about this epic struggle.
